Cairns YHA

Room at Cairns YHA The YHA has a reputation for great  budget accommodation and I decided to stay at the Cairns YHA  because it was opposite the Cairns Railway Station from where I was taking the 8.35am Spirit of Queensland back to Brisbane. Deciding I needed somewhere nice to stay, I took a single room at $100. To my dismay it was a tiny room with a single bed and a shared toilet which was at the end of the passage. Palmer River Roadhouse The bus stopped for 20 minutes at the Palmer River Roadhouse . Here there is a restaurant, bar and poolroom, a small store selling t-shirts and gold nuggets. This area was once a gold mining area but the man behind the bar told me I would be pushing to find gold here these days but I was welcome to try. Camping is $30 unpowered and $35 powered and amenities provided. Its a beautiful oasis on the way and interesting to visit. I had a hamburger while waiting. We stopped at a place called Steffy's where a small stall was selling local produce...potatoes, onions, eggplants, lemons and local honey Lakeland Roadhouse serves fuel, food, and hot drinks in the rural town of Lakeland Queensland, 300km north of Cairns and is the gateway to the Cape.
